Mental health support that actually works—from the people young people already trust.

Train your own team to deliver real mental health support, without burning out, breaking down, or passing the buck.

CHANGE is a 4-day practitioner training that equips your staff with the tools, skills, and confidence to support young people—without needing to be a therapist.

Is This What It’s Like in Your Organisation Right Now?

  • More and more young people and their families are presenting on a daily basis with mental health challenges which are a barrier to their learning and development

  • You’re the go-to person for pupil or youth mental health... but no one trained you for this.

  • Staff are overwhelmed, exhausted, and scared of “saying the wrong thing.”

  • You’ve had a young person open up—but you didn’t know what to say or do.

  • You’ve tried bringing in outside help, but it’s expensive, inconsistent or just not sustainable.

  • Everyone’s looking to you for solutions… and you’re out of ideas.

After CHANGE, You’ll Notice...

  • Staff who feel confident and equipped to support young people.

  • Young people who are more open, emotionally aware and resilient.

  • Leaders who don’t panic when mental health conversations come up.

  • A calm, empowered environment—not a reactive one.

  • Practical tools being used daily—not just once a term.

  • Sustainable, long-term support built in-house.

  • A sense of relief: “We’ve finally got something that works.”

Who's Behind CHANGE?

At HeadStrong, we’ve spent over a decade delivering direct mental health interventions to young people across Scotland. We’ve worked in schools, clubs, and communities. We’ve supported staff, mentored children to teens, and faced the same frustrations you have.

CHANGE is the programme we wished existed—so we built it.

It’s rooted in psychology. Backed by coaching. Informed by lived experience. It’s an investment from your limited budget which retains a lasting resource in your setting. And it’s delivered in a way that empowers your people to become the support system your young people need.

Here’s What the CHANGE Model Looks Like

1.

Practitioner Training

3 days of hands-on, in-person training (plus 1 recall day), where one of your team members learns:

  • Core coaching techniques

  • Psychology of the mind

  • Practical NLP tools

  • Real-world scenarios + roleplay

  • Confident delivery of the CHANGE programme

2.

In-House Delivery

Your trained staff member becomes accredited to run CHANGE with pupils or young people—using our workbook-based structure to run sessions that actually make a difference.

3.

Ongoing Support

They’re not on their own. We offer regular check-ins, peer community, and access to HeadStrong’s support network.

Who CHANGE Is (and Isn’t) For

CHANGE is for you if...

  • You work with young people and want to support their mental health.

  • You’re tired of outsourcing everything.

  • You want real skills—not just awareness posters.

  • You care deeply, but don’t always know what to say.

  • You want long-term, internal capacity—not quick fixes.

CHANGE is not for you if...

  • You’re looking for a one-off workshop.

  • You expect instant results with zero effort.

  • You don’t believe mental health support is your role.

  • You aren’t willing to invest in staff training.

  • You’re only doing it for a tick-box.

STILL NOT SURE?

Frequently Asked Questions

Do staff need a background in counselling or psychology?

Nope. We train them from the ground up. All they need is a heart for young people and a willingness to learn.

Who is this suitable for?

Anyone working directly with children or teens: teachers, coaches, youth leaders, club staff, support workers and more.

Is this a certified programme?

Yes. All participants receive official HeadStrong accreditation after completing the training.

What age group is the pupil programme for?

This is in development for Secondary Pupils- training for anyone working with teens- watch this space!

How long does it take to see an impact?

Most organisations notice positive changes quickly - often within weeks of staff starting to use the tools. That said, CHANGE is about building sustainable long-term capacity, so the real impact grows over time as staff embed these approaches into everyday practice and filter this down throughout your team.

How many young people can one trained staff member support?

This varies depending on your setting, but typically a single trained practitioner can run CHANGE blocks for 6-8 pupils at a time, depending on time available with multiple blocks possible across the year.

What ongoing commitment is required from the school/organisation?

Once staff are trained, the main commitment is allowing them the time and space to run groups or offer support as needed. We also provide ongoing check-ins and a peer community, so they’ll never be left on their own. 6 workbooks will be included as part of the training- additional workbooks can be purchased across the year.

What if a trained staff member leaves our organisation?

The accreditation stays with the individual, but we can work with you to train additional staff so the knowledge and skills remain in your setting. Many schools choose to train more than one staff member for resilience.

Is this suitable for staff who already have mental health training?

Yes. CHANGE complements existing approaches and gives staff practical, structured tools they can use straight away. Even those with prior training find the workbook-based structure and relationship building invaluable.

Does this replace external counselling or CAMHS referrals?

No. CHANGE is not designed to replace specialist services. Instead, it bridges the gap by equipping staff with practical tools to provide immediate, everyday support - and helps reduce unnecessary referrals.

What makes this different from other mental health programmes?

CHANGE is rooted in the principles of NLP, backed by coaching, and informed by over a decade of lived experience. It’s practical, sustainable, and focused on giving your staff the skills to make a difference - not a one-off intervention.

Can we train more than one staff member?

Absolutely. Get in touch and we’ll discuss a multi-practitioner option for your setting.
